The state House of Representatives passed a measure to allow night vision hunting under certain conditions. SB 104 allows hunters on their own land to hunt at night with a shotgun or a fire arm using a rimfire cartridge. It also requires a hunter to use night vision technology. Democratic State Representative Dennis Feickert says South Dakota is behind what other states are already doing.
"States closest to South Dakota that allow night vision hunting include Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Montana, Nebraska, Wisconsin and Wyoming. Night vision technology is a safer technology then current practices," Feickert says.
The Democratic State Representative says current practices of using spot lights are simply not as safe as current night vision technology. This bill passed the state House 62-8 and goes next to the Governor.
