Congresswoman Kristi Noem says she’s asking U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to take action against a website that advertises the buying and selling of people.
Representative Kristi Noem says she’s among the 44 members of Congress who sent a letter to the U.S. Attorney General. She’s asking him to prosecute the website, which contains ads for sex with women and children. She says websites like this perpetuate the sex trafficking industry, and need to be shut down.
“The problem we’ve had in the past is that the Attorney General hasn’t taken action,” Noem says. “We’d like to ask him to do that, and if he doesn’t believe that he has the authority, to please make recommendations to Congress on what we can do to give him that authority. Right now when you talk to our state Attorneys General, they believe that authority lies within the federal government and within federal statute. And that is why it is imperative that Attorney General Holder make this a priority and take action where he can.”
Noem says she’s also working on legislation to target websites and close internet marketplaces hosting ads that exploit children.
