Four-Decade Mystery Case Solved

Attorney General Marty Jackley said yesterday that two Vermillion teens who went missing in the early 1970s died in a car crash. Pamela Jackson and Cheryl Miller died when their vehicle ran off the road while they were on their way to a party. Jackley said there was no evidence of foul play. The vehicle was in third gear when it crashed, keys were still in the ignition and one of the tires was damaged, perhaps indicating a blowout. Jackley said that alcohol was not a factor. The 1960 Studebaker Lark the teens were driving to a party in rural Union County at a gravel pit was found last fall. The case had been classified as a homicide. SDPB's Gary Ellenbolt attended the press conference in Elk Point where the attorney general presented the final results from the forensic testing of skeletal remains found in the car and he joined Dakota Midday to discuss the results of the case.
