State Representative Stace Nelson took home just 17-percent of the votes in the South Dakota Republican Primary race. Nelson says he is disappointed by losing to Mike Rounds for a seat in the U.S. Senate.
He says he didn’t have near the campaign funds that Rounds did and a win seemed like an impossible task at times
“We ran an honest hard race and pound for pound, by golly, I mean we took on East Coast special interest money and we came up short. It’s a sad statement of American politics and it’s something that I hope we don’t continue to see this precedent set that East Coast buys our elections here in South Dakota,” says Nelson.
Nelson also ran against fellow South Dakota Legislator Larry Rhoden. Dr. Annette Bosworth and Jason Ravensborg were also candidates for the Senate seat. Nelson says after losing in the Primary, he plans to take a break from politics and spend more time with his family.
