Building homes is seen as a critical part of both economic and community development. However in rural communities there’s often little experience in dealing with housing issues. Over the past couple years, the Dakota Resources Home Address rural housing program has helped some South Dakota towns develop housing strategies.
Mobridge, DeSmet and Lemmon have been named as new Home Address communities. They join Miller, Faulkton, Wagner and the Martin/Lacreek District on Pine Ridge. Home Address program coordinator Mike Knutson says the program gives communities the tools, relationships and confidence to move forward.
Knutson joined Dakota Midday and discussed how the Home Address program is helping with the problem of rural housing shortage in South Dakota.
