U.S. Senator John Thune says the Senate is set to discuss funding the government. He says he does not expect a government shutdown.
Senator John Thune says lawmakers will likely pass a continuing resolution, funding the government through early December. He says at that point there needs to be a longer term solution in place.
“But for that negotiation to get underway we need to at least deal with the short-term issue which is the September 30th fiscal year deadline,” Thune says. “And my hope and expectation is that we will move a bill through the Senate in the next couple of days and then ultimately through the House, hopefully before next Wednesday.”
Thune says he anticipates a level of cooperation that keeps the government running.
