Over the course of his lifetime, Earl Brockelsby gathered the largest private collection of reptiles in the world under the dome of Reptile Gardens in South Dakota. A new book called “Rattlesnake Under His Hat: The Life and Times of Earl Brockelsby” tells the story of the lesser known details of the man’s life. Author Sam Hurst joins Dakota Midday to talk about the new book. Sam Hurst is an award-winning journalist and documentarian. He moved to the Black Hills after retiring from NBC News. He joins us now from the SDPB studios in Rapid City.
