Dr. Daniel Petereit developed the NCI-funded Walking Forward (WF) Program in 2002. WF was developed to address the high cancer incidence and mortality rates that American Indians (AIs) suffer who live in Western South Dakota.

Dr. Lon Kightlinger is South Dakota's state epidemiologist. The flu virus surfaced in South Dakota in late December. In January, flu cases doubled every week and there have been 5 confirmed deaths from the flu this season. Dr. Kightlinger will discuss the flu virus.
