Unless the legislature says otherwise, owners of flooded land can keep hunters, fishers, and boaters off their property. The South Dakota Supreme Court issued that opinion this week in a Day County case. Game Fish & Parks has maintained that members of the public may use the water as long as they get to it by legal means. But landowners say it's up to the legislature to enact a statute, and so far lawmakers have declined to do so. SDPB's Victoria Wicks has this report.
Author Patrick Hicks is the child of an immigrant. His mother was born and raised in Northern Ireland. Today we talk about the Troubles in Irish history and the lessons for Americans. Patrick Hicks is writer-in-residence at Augustana College. His poetry collections include "This London,” "Finding the Gossamer" and "Adoptable." His short story collection is called "The Collector of Names." His novel is "The Commandant of Lubizec."
The retro style of Polaroid pictures re-emerges. This, during a time when nearly everyone has access to artistic photo apps and eager audiences on social media. One local photographer displays his instant images from nearly 40 years of point-and-shoot. SDPB's Chynna Lockett spoke with Roger O’Dea at his exhibit.
This week for Moment in Sound, the Minneapolis Guitar Quartet joins us in the studio. One of the premiere guitar ensembles in the world, they perform tonight at the National Music Museum in Vermillion. Quartet members are: Maja Radovanlija, Wade Oden, Benjamin Kunkel, and Joseph Hagedorn.
