In The Moment ... May 5, 2017 Show 087 Hour 1
Medal of Honor recipient Leo Thorsness died this week. Col. Thorsness was a U.S Air Force pilot who was shot down during the Vietnam War and endured six years as a prisoner of war at the notorious "Hanoi Hilton." After his release he returned to South Dakota and began a life in politics, campaigning against prominent Democrats such as George McGovern and Tom Daschle. With us today to talk about Col. Thorsness, John Mollison and Jon Lauck. Historian and artist John Mollison is host of the program "Old Guys and Their Airplanes" http://www.oldguysandtheirairplanes.com/. Historian Jon Lauck was recently awarded the Schell
Prize from the South Dakota State Historical Society. We discuss valor, anti-war rhetoric and how it impacted South Dakota politics, and how Leo Thorsness might want to be remembered.
This week's Moment in Sound features The Nesters.
