For the 26th time in state history, the state legislature convened for a special session in Pierre, this time to tackle a decades-old issue of public access to water over private land. Lawmakers voted to open these waters, called non-meandered bodies of water, for public use, unless a landowner declares otherwise. SDPB's Political reporter Lee Strubinger joins us from the capitol in Pierre to digest the special session and what comes next.
At the University of South Dakota, the 27th annual Oscar Howe Summer Art Institute is underway. Twenty high school students are chosen to take part in workshops and studio sessions guided by instructors as they learn about contemporary Native American fine arts. We’re joined by chair of the art department at USD Cory Knedler, Liz Skye (artist, Oscar Howe Summer Art Institute counselor and student) and Bree Green (student artist.)
