Today we discuss lawmaker’s attempts to prevent future embezzlement of tax payer dollars as it relates to the continued investigation into Mid-Central Education Cooperative. We also talk about the state’s budget surplus and President Donald Trump’s popularity in the state.
Emily Wanless is assistant professor of Political Science at Augustana University in Sioux Falls. This summer she serves as chair of the Initiative and Referendum Task Force as they explore potential changes to the initiated measure, constitutional amendment and referred law processes. The Task Force met for the second time last Tuesday in Pierre.
With the rise of technology and cyber security concerns, it may come as no surprise that computer coding camps are gaining popularity on a national level. But GenCyber takes this a step further. Thanks to funding from the NSA, students can learn about security and programming free of charge. The GenCyber camp at Dakota State University was the first of its kind four years ago, and now it's the largest in the country. SDPB's Jackie Hendry spent time with the campers in Madison.
As SDPB's Jackie Hendry was in Madison at Dakota State, about 30 high school girls were at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology for an all-female GenCyber coding camp. Professor Val Manes was one of the presenters.
