In The Moment ... Lessons From WWII

In The Moment ... September 11, 2107 Show 174 Hour 2

As fliers associated with white supremacy make their way to South Dakota (some were recently found in Sioux Falls) state residents are reminded that neo-Nazi sentiments are not a thing of the past. How do we address nationalism, racism, and Nazi sympathies today? We begin with a look at history.

Patrick Hicks is the author of more than ten books, including “The Collector of Names,” “Adoptable,” and the World War II novel “The Commandant of Lubizec”. He's writer-in-residence at Augustana University, a South Dakota Humanities scholar, and you can meet him next week at the South Dakota Festival of Books in Deadwood. Patrick Hicks joins us from the SDPB studios at the University of Sioux Falls.

Our next guests say the best of South Dakota culture can be found at your local farmer's market. Katie Hunhoff is publisher of South Dakota Magazine. Bernie Hunhoff is editor-at-large. The September/October issue of the magazine celebrates the harvest with a feature that follows markets from Hot Springs to Millbank and everywhere in between. The Hunhoff's join us with scenes from the state harvest.
