This year’s extreme moisture is providing substantial wetland conditions for duck hunting in South Dakota.
This comes after years of declining trends in suitable conditions for the duck hunting season.
Bruce Toay is the manager of conservation programs for Ducks Unlimited in South Dakota. He says local duck hunters are preparing now for the upcoming season.
"South Dakota is one of the premier water fowling destinations in the country," says Toay. "Not only do we produce a lot of ducks throughout the summer, but we also hold high concentrations of birds through the fall migration. Hunters are getting ready to head out and find concentrations of birds in the state and hopefully can get out and harvest a few.”
Toay says most wetlands in South Dakota are above capacity, especially in the southeastern region of the state.
South Dakota’s duck season opens this Saturday.
