When you're in the middle of a mental health crisis in South Dakota, especially rural South Dakota, the person who arrives to assist is often a police officer or deputy sheriff. Now, a new partnership seeks to transform the nature of mental health emergency response in South Dakota. Avera eCaRE, the South Dakota Unified Judicial System, and the Helmsley Charitable Trust Rural Healthcare Program have announced the Virtual Crisis Care Pilot Program. David Gilbertson is Chief Justice of the South Dakota Supreme Court. Fred Lamphere is the sheriff of Butte County.
