The South Dakota Department of Transportation is directing nearly $75 million to a program for bridge reconstruction.
Local governments can apply for grant funding for reconstruction projects. From there, the DOT will oversee the construction and completion of the projects.
Local government assistance engineering supervisor Doug Kinniburgh said one in every four bridges across the state qualifies to be replaced. He thinks the funding will provide much support to local communities.
“Our road network across the state is interconnected and it takes all different jurisdictions to be able to get people from point A to point B,” said Kinniburgh. "I think it will certainly benefit all South Dakotans as well as those that are traveling through and providing resources to us.”
Applications can be submitted to the DOT through Aug. 1.
