An economic perspective on the slaughter of the American buffalo

On today's show...

The U.S. Supreme Court is back in session today. Mike Thompson, J.D., an associate professor of criminal justice at the University of Sioux Falls, previews the upcoming term and shares a few of the cases he's watching (1:00 to 16:30).

Donn Feir, Ph.D., is an applied labor economist and economic historian at the University of Victoria in Canada. Augustana University's Department of Economics is hosting Feir for presentations in Sioux Falls on Oct. 17 and 18.

Feir joins the show to dive into their research into the economic history of North American Indigenous people. They discuss why the near-extermination of the buffalo caused economic shockwaves that rippled through to the present day (16:30 to 34:04).

The Federal Reserve recently cut interest rates by half a percent. Dan English, general manager of FBN Finance, talks about what this means for farmers and provides updates on other financial news impacting ag producers (34:04 to 42:50).

Plus, it's World Space Week. We hear part of Hank Fridell's April 2024 interview on the total solar eclipse to celebrate the wonder inspired by the skies above us (42:50 to 49:03).
