On the ballot: Recreational marijuana

On today's show...

South Dakotans will once again make their voices heard on recreational marijuana. Initiated Measure 29 puts the legality of cannabis back on the ballot.

Matthew Schweich is executive director with South Dakotans for Better Marijuana Laws. He makes the case for legalizing marijuana for a fairer justice system and safer, regulated use of the drug (1:00 to 16:12).

Our Dakota Political Junkies break down the history behind this latest attempt.

Jonathan Ellis with The Dakota Scout shares his reporting over the years on marijuana. And Tom Dempster, a former state senator, brings a legislative perspective (16:12 to 33:11).

Bonnie Omdahl, M.D., with Protecting South Dakota Kids argues against Initiated Measure 29. She discusses her concerns over the adverse health impacts of marijuana use and examines whether the promises of advocates came true in states with legal marijuana (33:11 to 48:37).
