Building up empathy this election season

On today's show...

For anyone experiencing election anxiety as Tuesday, Nov. 5 approaches, licensed psychologist Emilia Flint, Ph.D., says to take a deep breath.

Hold it.

Let it out.

Flint shares a few ways to care for your mental health this election. She talks about reframing your strong emotions as passion, setting boundaries with your politically-minded loved ones and prioritizing what makes you happy (1:00 to 17:45).

Janet Blank-Libra, Ph.D., says many newsrooms see empathetic reporting as biased. Her research tells a different story.

The Augustana University professor takes us into her book on compassion and empathy as journalistic ethics. She speaks to those who gather the news and those who consume it (17:45 to 46:30).
