Large wildfires are burning in neighboring states after an active fire weekend in the region. Lightning is the suspected cause of the Carter Canyon Fire in western Nebraska. Meanwhile, the Fish Wildfire is burning across the border from South Dakota in the Wyoming portion of the Black Hills National Forest.

The 82nd Sturgis Motorcycle Rally begins August 5th. The ten-day gathering typically attracts around half a million motorcycle riders and enthusiasts. That’s a unique challenge for the Black Hills town of Sturgis.

Rising food prices have increased the demand for organizations like Feeding South Dakota. The food relief organization has seen a 20% increase in use at its mobile food distribution sites.

A state agency plans to dredge Capitol Lake in Pierre. After the lake is completely drained, machines will scrape sediment from the bottom.

A South Dakota after school program called Girls on the Run is seeking to build both physical and emotional skills. Girls on the Run is a 10-week program that is non-competitive, with participants ranging from grades 3-8.
