Indigent defense, legal representation for people unable to pay for services, has been a major challenge for South Dakota. Now, with a $3 million allocation to South Dakota's public defense system, what does this mean for the state?

A new statewide collaborative is addressing food insecurity in the state. Timothy Meagher, a steering committee member for the state Healthy Nutrition Collaborative says its a step in the right direction.

South Dakota was the 47th state to legalize the growing of hemp, with farmers starting to grow in 2021. But the state made up ground fast. The USDA says South Dakota farmers planted more than 3,000 acres of industrial hemp in 2023—more than any other state. And advocates say there's room for even more growth.

There's a new location for Native health in the Black Hills. The Great Plains Native Health Hub has opened in Rapid City with the support of Johns Hopkins University.
