A new agreement between the Justice Department and Bennet County helps Native Americans receive equal voting opportunities. In July, the federal department notified the county it had not made in-person voter registration and absentee voting opportunities equal for Native Americans during South Dakota's 46-day absentee voting period.

According to a new report—South Dakota ranks near the bottom in the nation for number of children enrolled in preschool. The most recent data from the Annie E. Casey Foundation's Kids Count has insights on child-related statistics for the state.
