A bill to ban lab-grown meat in South Dakota was killed in the Senate. Cell-cultured meat, otherwise known as lab-grown meat, was a hot-button question in the legislature, as some lawmakers wanted to see the product banned entirely.

South Dakota lawmakers are assessing how to manage powerful opioids best, as the severity of addiction is well known.

House lawmakers advanced a bill moving the Brand Board from the Department of Agricultural and Natural to the Office of School and Public Lands. The board is responsible for regulating livestock brands, inspections, and theft investigations.

A house panel comprised of leadership passed a bill that reduces the amount taxing districts can raise property taxes. The state Senate is set to vote on Gov. Larry Rhoden’s working group property tax relief idea soon.
