Noem Unaware Federal Program Had No Vaccination Locations West River

A federal program is offering COVID-19 vaccines in four locations in eastern South Dakota – Brookings, Huron, Mitchell and Vermillion. The effort is a partnership with Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club.

Governor Kristi Noem says she was unaware there are no locations in west river South Dakota.

Noem remains optimistic as more vaccines get approval from the feds.

“The fact the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is coming online is very helpful,” Noem says. “Especially since that’s a one shot vaccine. In regards to that, the more people we can get vaccinated the better off our state will be in the long run. We’re one of the leading states in the country for distribution. The more vaccines that we get we will make sure that they’re getting into people’s arms as soon as possible.”

The New York Times tracks vaccine rollout . It reports that 11 percent of South Dakotans have received at least one dose of the vaccine. Five percent have received two doses.
