Yesterday during his State of the State address, Governor Dennis Daugaard told lawmakers that while South Dakota's economy is strong, additional steps need to be taken to train and attract people to fill the jobs needed to fuel continued economic growth. In his speech, the Governor said the state has low unemployment, which is making it difficult for workers to find jobs. Governor Daugaard wants to invest in career and technical training for high school students, including awarding five million dollars in grants from the state's economic development fund to go to career and technical education programs in high schools. David Owen, President of the South Dakota Chamber of Commerce and Industry, discussed these issues.
