Walker, Former US Senate Candidate In Jail Awaiting Trial

Clayton Walker is a former US Senate candidate who was kicked off the ballot for allegedly forging some of the signatures needed on his campaign petition.  He is now in jail awaiting trial.

Walker is set to stand trial on July 20th on felony charges including 12 counts of election petition violations.

But he was arrested after failing to show up for pretrial hearings.  He is now in custody until the July 20th trial.

Attorney General Marty Jackley says Clayton Walker’s alleged election petition violations are now not the only charges he is facing.

“In addition to the petition violation issues Mr. Walker has also been indicted   on some threatening and harassing phone calls.  So he’s there are really three cases he’s involved in. One is the election law violations, on the petitions.  The second is dealing with threatening and harassing phone calls and the third is failing to make an court appearance.  And, of course he’s presumed innocent on all of those charges,” says Jackley.

Currently Walker is representing himself.  Jackley says Walker has the right to a court appointed attorney if he chooses to have one during the trial.

Jackely says Walker’s mental competency to stand trial is being checked by court appointed experts and any results could change the outcome of the ongoing proceedings.

Clayton Walker sent this letter to the media prior to this most recent arrest.

Walker sent a letter to the media that was addressed to the Department of Justice and claims that his rights are being denied in this case.
