Rapid City Wants 24 Hours With Presentation Material

Lee Strubinger

Rapid City officials are changing guidelines for public presentations at city council and city committee meetings.

Those who wish to present digital content, like photos or a PowerPoint slide, must submit their material 24 hours before a meeting is held.

Rapid City Communications Director Darrell Shoemaker says the change will help streamline city council meetings.

“Items are being brought in, you know, right at the beginning of the meeting or even a few moments after the meeting has been gaveled in. Giving us the opportunity to check for viruses and make sure there’s no issues with it and just making sure for an efficient presentation of the item," Shoemaker says. "Because a lot of the time it’s just brought in and we’re all set up and it comes in with a minute to spare or it’s even after the meeting has started and that kind of complicates things for presentations.”

Shoemaker says often presenters sometimes bring in files that don’t work with the display system. He says the 24 hours gives the city time to work with an individual who is presenting to figure out alternatives.
