The Chairman of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe says he and other tribal leaders are heading to Washington DC this week to talk with lawmakers about ending the government shutdown.
Chairman Rodney Bordeaux says seventy-four percent of their budget revenue is federal money.
Bordeaux says the tribe has reserves that will fund operations for roughly another month.
“Right not we are developing some contingency plans, which one of our tribal employees are necessary and which ones are not. We’re going to have to come to a point where if it goes on too much further into mid-February and on, we’re going to have to start laying people off.”
Bordeaux says those layoffs will have a drastic effect on tribal members in Rosebud.
He says the cuts will impact employees who are contracted through the Department of Interior
