Senators are making quick work of several medical-marijuana bills.
The full Senate is passing along a handful of bills to the House. Those bills come from an interim study committee that focused on the medical-marijuana program approved by voters in 2020.
Senator Bryan Breitling chaired that committee. The Republican from Miller says the bills have input from the industry, as well as health-care officials, law enforcement and local governments.
“Most of these changes are just a few word changes,” Breitling says. “Just provide a little more clarity. That’s the intent of the summer study is to make sure that new law that we passed last year is safe.”
On Wednesday, senators will consider five more bills.
The House passed a bill earlier this week that would prevent home cultivation of medical marijuana. Supporters of the bill say voters did not vote on home-grow, but rather the concept of medical marijuana.
Some senators say they want to respect the will of the voters and establish a number for allowable home-grow plants.
It’s likely the two chambers will work their differences out as the legislative session progresses.
