This interview originally aired on "In the Moment" on SDPB Radio.

Representative Kameron Nelson is a Democrat who represents District 10. He joins In the Moment to talk about the bills he's watching that would most impact his constituents.

This includes the six proposed bills related to pipelines and eminent domain in South Dakota. Rep. Nelson talks about the impacts those bills would have on landowners.

He also discusses funding for the "Big Three," meaning teachers, state employees and Medicaid providers. What are the state's obligations to these groups in light of rising inflation?

Rep. Nelson is the first openly gay state legislator in South Dakota. He spoke passionately against House Bill 1080 last week, which is a bill that would prohibit gender-affirming medical and surgical care for minors. He talks with Lori Walsh about making the state more welcoming to LGBTQ+ South Dakotans.

Watch his full speech against HB 1080.
