State Dems move to oust chair

SDDP

South Dakota Democratic Party members are calling for an emergency meeting to recall party chair Jennifer Slaight-Hansen.

That’s according to a note obtained by SDPB from State Sen. Reynold Nesiba.

The note says those within the party have gathered a sufficient number of signatures to begin the recall process and appoint a new chair.

The move is centered around concerns of the conduct of the current chair—including violations of the party’s constitution.

The issue came to a head when former state lawmaker and executive director Dan Ahlers announced he would resign from the position after just a few months on the job.

The Democratic party looks to convene the state central committee in Fort Pierre on Saturday, Aug. 19.

Slaight-Hansen has been chair of the party since Randy Seiler suddenly died in April.
