Gov. Kristi Noem is clarifying comments that she’s seen text of the US Senate’s highly anticipated southern border security and immigration reform package.
Following her address in from of a joint session of the state legislature on Wednesday, Noem said she’s seen the quote “original text of the bill.”
That’s despite US Senate Republican staffers close to the negotiation saying there’s no way she’s seen the text.

When asked to clarify how she’s seen the bill, during a press conference on Thursday, Noem said she misspoke.
”But I did see several sections of it as it was being drafted,” Noem said. “Definitely saw the language and what the spirit of the element was that was being debated and discussed. Remember, I served eight years in Capitol Hill. I got a lot of friends that serve in the senate and serve in Congress that are willing to share language with me.”
The fate of the Senate’s bipartisan border security and immigration reform package are unclear. GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump has urged republicans to reject the proposal unless they get everything they want.
Noem calls the proposal a bad bill and said it should not be become law.
