South Dakota Democrats are endorsing Forrest Wilson as their candidate for Public Utilities Commission.
Wilson is director of the Lead-Deadwood Boys and Girls Club. He said he will advocate for the quote “everyday utility rate payer.”
Wilson is challenging incumbent Kristie Fiegen who has held the position since 2011.
Fiegen was recently endorsed by the Republican party.
Position responsibilities include regulating utility companies and playing a role in evaluating permit applications for energy projects.
The commission also plays an important role in regulating potential carbon pipelines – like the one proposed by Summit Carbon Solutions.
