More than 200 new laws are now in effect in South Dakota.
All bills approved by the state legislature that don’t include an emergency clause take effect July 1.
Gov. Kristi Noem signed a total of 233 bills approved by the legislature without issuing a single veto. Of those, 208 went into effect Monday.
Some of the new laws include:
- A bill requiring the Department of Health to create a video explaining the state’s abortion law.
- A pair of bills aiming to make it easier for people without housing to get birth certificates and ID cards.
- Tighter regulations on resident hunting and fishing licenses, as well as a bill making fluorescent pink an official hunting safety color.
- A bill strengthening existing state law that prohibits foreign ownership of agricultural land.
- Several new bills regulating medical marijuana.
- A bill that defines antisemitism and makes it easier to legally prove antisemitic discriminatory conduct.
