Garretson City Council members voted to repeal a weapons ban that has been in place on the city’s books since 1998.
The ban made it unlawful for any person to have firearms, air guns, explosives, bows or any other weapon at city parks.
According to the Garretson Gazette, council member Brayden Beaner brought up the issue at this week's meeting, saying a law passed by the Legislature in 2020 prohibits city governments from implementing firearm bans. He said the ordinance opens the city up to lawsuits.
Other council members voiced concerns repealing the ban could cause safety issues. The council ended up repealing the ban on a 3-2 vote.
