South Dakota DANR allocates water loans and grants

The South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources approved low-interest loans and grants totaling over $24 million for statewide environmental water projects.

Seven projects across the state were chosen in various cities. The two largest projects are in Mitchell and Pierre.

Mitchell received the largest loan at $13 million for improvements to its wastewater treatment facility, including installation of a new generator and extension of the sewer force main.

Pierre received over $5 million to replace an aging water main. The main is located under Euclid Avenue.

Others receiving funds include Box Elder, Fort Pierre, Lincoln County Rural Water System, Southeastern Council of Governments, and Walworth County.

These counties include improvements to clean water, drinking water, and solid waste.

All projects are funded through a combination of federal funds, loan repayments, and bonds.
