With elections right around the corner, there are big implications for Congressional leadership dependent on a few swing state elections.
Republicans need to flip just two seats to take control of the US Senate. If that happens, South Dakota US Senator Mike Rounds said his support for leadership is close to home.
“I’ve made it very clear that – look – if Republicans are fortunate enough to come into the majority in the United States Senate, I think John Thune would make an excellent leader,” Rounds said.
South Dakota’s John Thune is already the Senate Minority Whip, making him the second-ranking Republican in the upper chamber.
“We’ve got a couple of other candidates running who are really good people, I just think John Thune’s time is right now," Rounds said. "I think he’s been there long enough that he understands where the challenges are in the United States Senate.”
Nationwide elections are less than one month away.
