A bussing program raised eyebrows in Pennington County, though officials are updating its wording following pushback from the public.
The policy allows the county's Department of Human Services purchase a one-way bus ticket for individuals out of town.
Opponents raised concern on social media saying the program would be used primarily by individuals experiencing homelessness.
Those taking part in the program would be required to sign a document. The document initially read “as part of this agreement, I understand I am unable to return to Pennington County and I am not eligible for any additional service now or in the future.”
Representatives from the department did not return a request for comment, but in a statement said the wording did not “fully convey our commitment to compassion.”
The new wording of the agreement reads “I acknowledge that my use of this service may preclude me from receiving bus ticket assistance in the future.”
