For the third presidential election in a row, former President Donald Trump has won South Dakota's three electoral college votes.

The Associated Press called the state for Trump shortly after the final polls closed at 8 p.m. CT/7 p.m. MT.

The call was a stepping stone to Trump's eventual victory over his opponent, Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris. The AP called the race for Trump shortly after 4:30 a.m. CT Wednesday.

Trump won South Dakota with just under 62% of the vote in both 2020 and 2016. Early results from the Secretary of State's office suggest Trump could best that margin this election.
