Incumbent Kristie Fiegen is retaining her seat on South Dakota’s Public Utilities Commission.
Fiegen defeated Democrat Forrest Wilson and Libertarian Gideon Oakes.
She said her goal in office is to promote unity during a time of division.
“We have a lot of issues in front of the Public Utilities Commission that is dividing people. And I wanted to make sure I could get in people’s communities and at their events and make sure that we could have a good discussion, that I legally could have a good discussion, and respect the law and the reasons how we make decisions, or why we make decisions based on evidence and fact,” Fiegen said.
That includes division caused by the potential Summit Carbon Solutions pipeline in the state.
Fiegen said although there is more division on the issue, the process remains the same.
“So, what we see is, yeah, we do see those dockets coming. We will process an application for a permit just like we do everything else," Fiegen said. "We will have public input meetings. We will have discovery and testimony and evidentiary hearings and make a decision based on the facts and the evidence."
Fiegen said another main goal for her this term is to “keep the lights on” in South Dakota.
