Republicans are reclaiming majority control of the United States Senate.

South Dakota Senator John Thune said Republicans will turn the page on what he calls an expensive and reckless chapter of American history.

“The Biden-Harris administration has forced the American people to endure four years of high prices, open borders, and chaos on the world stage," Thune said.

Republicans were favored to flip control of the chamber.

Thune is running to lead the Senate Republican caucus, which means he would be majority leader of the chamber.

Twenty years ago, Thune unseated Democrat Tom Daschle, who was Senate Majority leader at the time.

Thune also congratulated President Donald Trump on his victory in the presidential race.

"The incoming Senate Republican majority will work hand-in-hand with the Trump-Vance administration to lower costs for families, secure our southern border, and renew America’s energy dominance. The work begins now,” Thune said.
