Dusty Johnson reintroduces bill regulating Congressional stock trading

(File)

US Representative Dusty Johnson is reintroducing the TRUST in Congress Act.

The bipartisan bill prohibits members of Congress, their spouses and their dependent children from trading individual stocks during their time in Congress.

Current stock investments already owned must be placed into a qualified blind trust until 180 days after their tenure in Congress ends. The only exception would be if a spouse or dependent receives compensation through their primary occupation through a covered investment.

Johnson said the legislation comes because Congress members have access to information regarding companies and markets that the typical person would not.

He said Congress members “should not have the ability to use this information for personal gain.”
