The Senate State Affairs Committee unanimously approved a bill that would expand the access and investigatory authority of the state auditor.
Attorney General Marty Jackley introduced the bill.
“Protecting taxpayer dollars and restoring the public’s trust in government are among my priorities for this legislative session,” said Jackley. “This bill gives the State Auditor the authority to review financial records of a state agency in an effort to keep that agency more accountable to the public.”
This comes after a rough 2024 for the state, where a wave of state employees faced fraud or embezzlement charges.
Both the State Auditor, Rich Sattgast, and the State Treasurer, Josh Haeder supported the bill. It now heads to the full Senate.
