Rounds joins Senate DOGE Caucus

U.S. Sen. Mike Rounds is joining the newly formed Senate Department of Government Efficiency – or DOGE – Caucus.

Rounds said it’s a group of lawmakers who plan to work with President Donald Trump to eliminate wasteful government spending.

"I’m ready to work with my colleagues in the Senate to do our part in assisting President Trump in cutting spending, eliminating unnecessary programs and streamlining the federal government so it works for the people rather than the bureaucracy," Rounds said. "One place to start is eliminating the federal Department of Education and returning educational decisions to our states, saving at least $1.3 billion in taxpayer dollars.”

The caucus is expected to work with the Trump Administration’s DOGE team. The department, led by tech billionaire Elon Musk, has been extremely active in the early days of the president’s term.

Trump has issued several executive orders aimed at shrinking government, including a sweeping freeze of federal assistance programs and offering federal workers buyouts if they resign.

Critics say Trump is overstepping presidential authority on many of these moves, and that these cuts could have negative implications for many Americans.
