Government officials say fireworks are returning to Mount Rushmore.
The fireworks were last set off at the memorial in 2020 and are being brought back in 2026 for the 250th birthday celebration, according to Gov. Larry Rhoden’s office.
Rhoden said he plans to work closely with the White House Task Force to make sure this historic event can take place.
“We are ready to throw the biggest birthday party ever for the United States of America,” Rhoden said. “Thank you to Secretary Burgum for helping us bring this historic event to life. Our nation’s 250th birthday will draw the attention of the entire world, reminding us just how proud we are to be Americans.”
Fireworks weren’t allowed at Mount Rushmore for over a decade due to wildfire concerns. They returned in 2020 in an event attended by President Trump, but federal officials rejected the state’s requests for fireworks displays during the Biden administration.
