Gov. Larry Rhoden is signing several bills addressing South Dakota election laws.
The governor signed 20 bills in total, including two targeting nonresident voters.
HB 1066 requires voters to live in South Dakota for 30 consecutive days to able to register to vote.
HB 1208 changes it so people who register to vote through a commercial mail forwarding service receive a federal-only absentee ballot, which includes only presidential and congressional races. Supporters say this limits the impact of nonresidents on local elections.
Rhoden also signed a bill prohibiting the use of deepfakes to influence elections.
The governor has signed 177 bills and vetoed two so far this session. One of the vetoes nixed an election bill aiming to add a geographic requirement in the petition gathering process for constitutional amendments.
