In 2022, a baby woolly mammoth was pulled from the permafrost in the Klondike region of Canada. The specimen holds the honor of being the best preserved North American mammoth ever discovered.
The mammoth, named Nun Cho Ga, wasn't fossilized. She was mummified.
The lead researcher who recovered the mammoth is giving a talk about the discovery on Wednesday in Hot Springs in South Dakota as part of the Mammoth Site's 50th anniversary.
Chris Jass, Ph.D., is the director of research at the Mammoth Site of Hot Springs. He previews the presentation and looks back at 50 years of science at the site.
