Alexander Heffner is the host of The Open Mind on PBS. He's covered American culture, politics, and civic life since 2008. He is co-author of A Documentary History of the United States. The most recent version includes documents related to September 11 and the Iraq War, Barack Obama's A More Perfect Union speech, and articles of impeachment against Donald J. Trump. His writing has appeared in The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, and USA Today.
Poet Colin Halloran is a U.S. Army veteran with combat experience in Afghanistan. His memoir Shortly Thereafter won the 2012 Main Street Rag Poetry Books Award and was named a Massachusetts Must-Read Book. He has also published the collections Icarian Flux and American Etiquette along with numerous essays and short stories. He leads efforts to promote personal healing and international reconciliation through writing and the arts.
Plus, South Dakota's own Sara Woster is a painter, illustrator, animator, and writer. She founded The Painting School and wrote the book Painting Can Save Your Life. She has illustrated several children's books, written two middle-grade novels, and published several personal essays. Her creative writing degree is from The New School. She has received a Jerome Foundation Emerging Artist Fellowship along with other awards and residencies. Sara is from Sioux Falls. She lives in Brooklyn.
