Taryn Kloth Wins Volleyball Gatorade Player of the Year Award

Sioux Falls O’Gorman Knights Senior Taryn Kloth is the 2014 South Dakota Gatorade Volleyball Player of the Year. Kloth led O’Gorman with 558 kills and 314 digs on the season. She also added 90 blocks to her resume in 2014. All aspects of her game helped lead the Knights to a state AA volleyball championship this year.

O’Gorman Volleyball Coach Julie Kolbeck said Kloth was nominated for the same award last year, but didn’t get it. She said Kloth played outstanding for the Knights this year and the award is well deserved.

“This is the topping on the cake for her high school career,” said Kolbeck. “If you know Taryn, you know how hard she works. She’s an amazing student in the classroom, and she does some community service as well.”

Coach Kolbeck said Kloth is stronger than most, because she has abilities that other athletes in the state can’t match.

“It doesn’t matter if she’s in the front row or the back row. It just made it so hard to play defense against her, because she can read mid-air where people are playing,” said Coach Kolbeck. “She’s just all around great, once in a lifetime player.”

Kloth will play volleyball for the Bluejays next season at Creighton University in Omaha, NE. Coach Kolbeck said she's confident that Kloth will succeed at the college level.
