Earlier this week, Ipswich sophomore Taylor Maurer sustained an injury pole-vaulting during practice. Because of the severity, she was unable to compete at the state track championships.

Deubrook Area, a rival of Ipswich, wanted to do something to honor the injured Lady Tiger.

Brad DeBeer is a parent of Shaylee DeBeer, one of the Deubrook Area track athletes.

“Our team decided, what if we dyed a bunch of socks orange, the Ipswich colors, put [Taylor’s] initials on them, and then we wear them,” said DeBeer. “And then we give Ipswich socks to wear too.”

That’s exactly what they did…

It’s an act of kindness that reflects sportsmanship and respect.

“It’s just a great way to get to know each other. They’re always competing, but at the end of the day it’s still about becoming friends,” said DeBeer.

There are more important things than winning and losing, and Deubrook Area showed just that.
